How to Make Fingerpaint

It's easy to make fingerpaint and it's an activity that children love! Finger painting brings out every child's artistic talents and they can be very creative when they paint with their hands... and feet!

Make Fingerpaint With Cornstarch

Get ready!

Medium saucepan

Muffin tin or small cups

3 tablespoons sugar

1/2 cup cornstarch

2 cups cold water

Food coloring

Liquid dishwashing detergent

Get set!

Mix sugar and cornstarch in saucepan. Turn heat on low, add cold water, and stir until mixture is thick. Remove from heat.

Divide the mixture up into four or five small containers or muffin tin sections. Add a few drops of food coloring and a pinch of soap flakes or a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent to each portion.

Stir and let cool before use. Store covered.

Go paint!

Fingerpaint With Flour

Get ready!

Saucepan

Wire whisk or eggbeater

1 cup flour

2 tablespoons salt

1 1/2 cups cold water

1 1/4 cups hot water

Food coloring or tempera paint

Get set!

Pour the flour and salt into saucepan. Add cold water and beat with whisk or eggbeater until smooth.

Stir in hot water and boil until the paint mixture is thick. Beat again until smooth. Add food coloring or powdered tempera paint to create colors.

Store covered in refrigerator.

Go paint!
